Description

The Amherst Regional Public School District is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher at Amherst Regional School District to provide specialized programming and services to students with significant disabilities that require intensive programming and oversight throughout the school day.  Students served in the program may have one or more disabilities in areas such as autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual impairment, down syndrome and/or other complex health impairments.

 

The position includes providing consultation and direct instruction to students in grades 7-8 in academic areas such as language arts and mathematics, adaptive living skills, social skills training and self-regulation strategies, as well as planning, modifying and adapting curriculum, and developing, implementing and monitoring social and positive behavioral supports.

 

The teacher will have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide intensive and specialized instruction for students with significant cognitive, physical/motor, and developmental disabilities
  • Provide direct instruction in functional academics, life skills, and adaptive daily living skills 
  • Design and implement discrete trial instruction
  • Organize and prepare MCAS ALT documentation
  • Maintain routine communication and collaboration with families
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other school personnel to promote meaningful inclusion in general education settings and extracurricular activities for the students
  • Communication and collaboration with paraeducators to help ensure an effective delivery of instruction and service to all students
  • Providing written input for IEPs and completion of progress reports
  • Collect, analyze, and use data to inform interventions and instruction

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and other related service providers 
  • Collaboration with outside and adult agency providers

 

Qualifications:

  • MA ESE Moderate Disabilities (5-12) or Severe Disabilities (All levels) certification or eligible for a DESE waiver or emergency certification
  • Experience and expertise working with students with complex and intensive needs
