Job Description:

The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Equity is a pivotal leadership position within the Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools (ARPS), responsible for driving the district's instructional vision and ensuring that curriculum, teaching practices, and assessments are aligned with the district's commitment to equity, inclusivity, and academic excellence. This role combines the expertise of curriculum development, instructional leadership, and equity coaching into a single, cohesive position that supports educators, students, and the broader ARPS community.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development & Instructional Leadership:
    • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district’s curriculum, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of all students and aligns with state standards.
    • Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality instructional programs that foster academic achievement and critical thinking across all grade levels.
    • Collaborate with principals, teachers, and instructional coaches to promote effective teaching strategies and practices that enhance student learning outcomes.
  2. Equity & Inclusivity Leadership:
    • Champion the district's commitment to equity by integrating inclusive practices into all aspects of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
    • Provide professional development and coaching to staff on culturally responsive teaching, implicit bias, and strategies to close achievement gaps.
    • Lead initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the district, ensuring that all students have access to equitable educational opportunities.
  3. Assessment & Data-Driven Decision Making:
    • Oversee the development and implementation of assessment systems that provide meaningful data to inform instructional practices and support student growth.
    • Analyze student performance data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement, and use this information to drive instructional decisions and interventions.
    • Ensure that assessment practices are fair, unbiased, and reflective of the diverse student population.
  4. Strategic Planning & Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with district and school leaders to develop and implement strategic plans that align with the district’s vision for academic excellence and equity.
    • Engage with community stakeholders, including families, students, and external partners, to gather input and build support for instructional and equity initiatives.
    • Serve as a key advisor to the Superintendent on matters related to curriculum, instruction, and equity, providing insights and recommendations that inform district policies and practices.
  5. Professional Development & Capacity Building:
    • Design and deliver professional development programs that build the capacity of teachers, instructional leaders, and support staff to implement effective instructional and equity practices.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement among educators, encouraging the adoption of innovative teaching methods and the sharing of best practices.
    • Mentor and support school leaders in their roles as instructional and equity leaders, helping them to lead change and improve student outcomes.

  • Data Analysis & Decision Making: Proficiency in analyzing data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaborative decision-making.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans that align with the district's goals and priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field required; Doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in educational leadership, with a focus on curriculum development, instructional leadership, and equity.
  • Proven track record of leading successful equity and inclusion initiatives in a K-12 setting.
  • Experience in data analysis and the use of data to inform instructional practices.
  • Strong background in professional development and capacity building for educators.

Reporting Structure:

The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Equity reports directly to the Superintendent and works closely with district leaders, school administrators, and teachers to implement and sustain high-quality educational programs that meet the needs of all students.
